Form, Speed, and Confidence: How Steph Clutterbuck Used LEVER to Rebuild for Ironman Texas

The Road Back: From Crash to Comeback

After a crash and a break from training, rebuilding fitness isn’t just about volume—it’s about doing it right. For professional triathlete Steph Clutterbuck, that meant being intentional with how she reintroduced load, speed, and race prep into her training.

One tool made all the difference: LEVER.

“I’ve been using the LEVER at least once a week. Coming back from the crash, it’s been super important for managing progressive overload while also keeping the focus on form changes.”

Whether it was standalone high-cadence runs or BRIC sessions designed to sharpen leg speed, LEVER helped Steph control intensity, stay healthy, and feel ready for the start of the season.

Training with LEVER: Speed Without the Strain

Steph’s favorite way to use the system? Overspeed work.

These sessions, designed to push leg turnover without overwhelming the body, allowed her to experience faster paces—while keeping stress low enough to recover well.

“Even though you aren’t at full body weight, the lactic acid and fatigue still build. Your legs experience super fast running!”

Example LEVER Session:

  • Warm-up:
    10 min easy → 5 min (30s @ 3:15/km / 30s easy) → 5 min easy

  • Main Set:
    5 min @ 3:30/km → 3 min easy
    4 min @ 3:20/km → 3 min easy
    3 min @ 3:10/km → 2 min easy
    2 min @ 3:00/km → 90s easy
    1 min @ 3:00/km

  • Cool-down:
    10–15 minutes easy

Steph adjusts the amount of weight offloaded based on her fatigue and daily metrics—but always keeps the physiological effort just below threshold so she can execute fast, clean work without breaking down.

Racing Stronger Than Ever

The results? It’s not just about faster splits—it’s about better form and growing confidence.

“Friends and fellow athletes are commenting on how different my form is, and my confidence is increasing every day.”

That momentum carries her into Ironman Texas, where she’ll line up against some of the best athletes in the world. For Steph, it’s more than just a race—it’s an opportunity to test herself under the kind of heat and humidity she might face at Kona.

“I’m excited for the chance to race in conditions similar to Kona—and to line up against the best.”

Beyond the Metrics: Who Steph Is On Race Week

As she sharpens both mindset and fitness, Steph stays grounded with a few personal rituals:

She writes key reminders on her thumbnails—a quiet moment of intention she can carry with her throughout the day.

🎶 Hype music?
She’s all about Imagine Dragons—“Believer” or “On Top of the World,” depending on the vibe she needs.

🍔 Post-race guilty pleasure?
A burger. Always.

Advice From an Ironman Pro

“It doesn’t need to be perfect. In fact, it probably won’t be. The beauty of Ironman is that the athlete who wins is often the one who manages the imperfections best. That’s where we rely on our humanity—our ability to make decisions and our love for this crazy sport.”
